博愛之謂仁，行而宜之之謂義，由是而之焉之謂道。足乎已無待于外之謂德，仁義定義為名，道與德為虛位。

博愛叫做仁，合宜于仁的行為叫做義，按照仁義的原則去做叫做道，內心具備仁義的本性，不需要外力的幫助和支持叫做德。仁和義是有確定的涵義，道和德是沒有確定的涵義。
